Elections

Elections are handled through the Vevay Township Clerk’s Office.  In order to vote in any election in Michigan, you must be 18 years of age on Election Day and you must be registered to vote.

Vevay Township residents will not have a November election

**If you will be away from your residential address for either Election, the Michigan Absent Voter Ballot Application and the Ballot itself, may be mailed to a temporary address.  Please contact the Clerk’s Office.

​

Polling Location:

Vevay Township has only one polling location located at 780 Eden Road, Mason, MI  48854.  The polls are open at 7:00 a.m. and will remain open until 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

​

The polling location is handicap accessible and instructions in alternative formats of audio and Braille are available upon request.  An accessible voting device is also available.

Voter Registration

Voters may register to vote at the Vevay Townships Clerk’s Office, Ingham County Clerk’s Office, any Secretary of State Office, designated State agency or by mail up to 15 days prior to any election.  Voters who wish to register to vote after that deadline (14 days prior to election and continuing through 8:00 p.m. on Election Day), can do so, but must appear in person at the Vevay Township Clerk’s Office and provide acceptable residency verification.

Acceptable residency verifications, which must include current residential address, are driver’s license or state identification, utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check or government issued document. 

​

Absentee Voting

All Voters can apply to vote by absentee ballot either in person at the Vevay Township Clerk’s Office, at Michigan.gov/vote or click here.   Mail in applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. the Friday before an election if you would like your ballot mailed to you.  Voters can drop off their application in person at the Vevay Township Clerk’s Office by 4:00 p.m. the Monday before Election Day and receive a ballot.  The ballot must be voted in person at the Vevay Township Clerk’s Office.

When applying for an absentee ballot in person at the Vevay Township Clerk’s Office, photo identification is required.  If a voter has no photo identification, the voter will sign an affidavit of voter without photo identification prior to a ballot being issued.  Without the voter present, issued ballots can only be mailed.

​

In addition to our regular hours of 10:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, the Clerk’s office will be open on the Saturday preceding the election from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the purpose of accepting and processing Absentee Ballot Applications and for issuing Absentee Ballots.

​

If you will be away from your residential address during an Election, your Michigan Absent Voter Ballot Application and the Ballot itself may be mailed to a temporary address.  Complete section 4 on the Michigan Absent Voter Ballot Application including the date you are leaving and the date you are returning as well as the temporary address.

​

All ballots must be signed and received by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. 

​

Voters may also request to be placed on the Absentee Voter Application List.

Absentee Voter Application List

The Vevay Township Clerk’s Office maintains an Absentee Voter (AV) Application List.  This AV list is a list of voters who vote by absentee ballot.  All voters on the AV list are automatically sent an Absentee Ballot Application for each election scheduled in Vevay Township.  As required by Michigan Election Law, an application must be completed for every election before the ballot will be mailed to you.

Military & Overseas Citizens Voter Empowerment Act (“MOVE”) Act

The MOVE Act affords all active uniformed service, spouse, dependents and merchant marines, stationed inside or outside the United states, civilians residing or temporarily located overseas and member of the National Guard activated on state orders the option of requesting an “electronic” absentee ballot to be emailed or faxed for voting.

Download and complete a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) and submit the form by postal mail , fax (517-676-6655, or scan and email to clerk@vevaytownship.org.

​

The FPCA form used for this request is available at www.FVAP.gov.

​

The voter must submit a FPCA form requesting a ballot every calendar year and the form must be filled out in its entirety. 

​

Voter Identification Requirements

All Michigan voters who vote in-person must comply with the requirement by showing a picture identification or signing an affidavit attesting that he or she is not in possession of picture identification.

​

Voters can satisfy the ID requirement by showing a Michigan driver’s license or a Michigan personal Identification card.   Voters who do not possess either document may show any of the following forms of picture ID as long as it is current:

​

  • Driver’s license or personal ID card issued by another state

  • Federal or state government-issued photo identification

  • U.S. Passport

  • Military identification card with photo

  • Student identification card with photo from high school or an accredited institution of higher education

  • Tribal identification card with photo

  • ​

Voters who do not have an acceptable picture identification or forgot to bring acceptable picture identification, can vote like any other voter by signing an affidavit stating that the voter is not in possession of identification.
